I am pleased to report my recent distinguished lecturer tour in an exotic, tropical island in South Asia. The tour took place in the beautiful island of Sri Lanka, also known as the “Teardrop of India”, in August 2025. It involved two lectures and a panel discussion at two venues in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. The talks and panel generated interesting questions, inspiring conversations and interactions. I also explored collaboration opportunities with peer researchers.
Having seen an opportunity to support the development and usage of APRS (Amateur Packet Reporting System), as a predecessor of Internet-of-Things (IoT), across Baltic countries, I planned a tour to the region, coordinated with Prof. Kalle Tammemäe, C/Com/IT Joint Chapter Chair, IEEE Estonia Section. Three venues were selected as the lecture hosts: VilniusTech (Vilnius Gediminas Technical University), EAVA (Estonian Aviation Academy, EAA), and TalTech (Tallinn University of Technology).
IEEE ComSoc Ecuador organized the “Smart City with AI: Designing the Electronic Future” workshop at Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas — ESPE, bringing together faculty and student members to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping the future of smart cities. Held on October 1st, 2025, this hands-on session introduced practical ways to integrate advanced AI tools with Design Thinking for sustainable urban innovation.
The IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM) is the region’s premier conference for advances in communications and networking. The 2025 edition was the 17th LATINCOM and marked the second time the event was hosted in Guatemala. Sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the conference brought together researchers, industry professionals, and students to present cutting-edge research, share insights, and foster collaborations across the Americas.
