In a significant step toward advancing global knowledge-sharing in telecommunications, the IEEE ComSoc Monterrey Chapter and the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Lambda-Rho Chapter of Tecnológico de Monterrey hosted a session featuring Dr. Ender Ayanoglu — IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer, IEEE Fellow (1998) — one of the most influential voices in wireless communications.

His visit to Tecnológico de Monterrey provided a unique opportunity for industry, students, and researchers to engage directly with a leading authority in the field, whose work is shaping next-generation (NextG) communication networks.

Dr. Ayanoglu delivered a groundbreaking talk titled “Machine Learning in NextG Networks via Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs),” exploring how GANs can model and optimize complex wireless environments to design and deploy future network technologies. The talk addressed critical challenges that must be solved to make NextG networks a reality, including advanced channel modeling, synthetic data generation for rare scenarios, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven network resilience, showcasing the transformative potential of AI in shaping next-generation communication systems.

The IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Tour(DLT) session opened with an introduction by Dr. Francisco Javier Falcone Lanas, IEEE Senior Member, Faculty of Excellence at Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Director of the Institute of Smart Cities at the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), Spain. His remarks highlighted the strong connections between European research initiatives and their counterparts in the Americas, fostering collaboration in smart cities and telecommunications.

Beyond the lecture, Dr. Ayanoglu engaged in one-on-one mentoring with graduate students, offering personalized feedback and exploring potential research collaborations in emerging areas such as cybersecurity, quantum machine learning, and joint sensing-communications for wireless networks, including algorithm design for post-quantum cryptography as a key initiative. This interaction underscored the event’s role as a catalyst for academic and professional growth.

Dr. Ayanoglu also reviewed projects presented by senior undergraduate students from the Space Technologies Concentration. These interdisciplinary initiatives integrated mechanical design, electronics, and remote-control systems for exploration rovers — demonstrating the practical application of NextG concepts.

Organized by Dr. César Vargas-Rosales, Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Monterrey Chapter and Faculty Advisor of the IEEE-HKN Lambda-Rho Chapter, with support from the Smart Electronics Research Group and the Faculty of Excellence program coordinated by M.Sc. Analía González-Cantú, this event reinforces the IEEE–Tecnológico de Monterrey alliance as a leading hub for innovation — connecting global expertise with local research excellence to shape the future of telecommunications.
